“Where should I begin … the sights, the sounds, uniquely Bali. As I step into the villa, I am taken aback by the open concept. It felt like I am living within nature, yet not lacking in our modern needs. It is amazing to see surrounding nature still kept intact, the view of the padi fields is just so mesmerizing.

“The house is a celebration of where it is. It is situated on rice paddies and it celebrates that, by opening onto a patio with an infinity-edge pool that disappears into the rice fields. While the house is totally open to outdoors, there still manages to be private spaces – a pavilion down below, the balconies, the ‘den’ that opens onto a different direction. The more you look at the house, the more details you come to appreciate. The white stone here, and the black stone there. The candles, the lighting and the fixtures. It’s really amazing.
The staff are perfect at what they do, an unobtrusive presence. You don’t think you’re thirsty until someone shows up with a glass of water. Right when the sun is beginning to go down, someone will appear to lower the blinds so the sun isn’t in your eyes. The villa manager is an amazing cook. I’ve never realized what a luxury it is to have someone cook for me – even though I’ve done it for others…
I’ve been waking up early here. From our bed, I can watch the sky turn to peach and then pink and then a light light blue. Subtle colors in the sky, but vivid colors below. The lush green from the coconut and banana trees is reflected in the rice terraces, and is punctuated by the bright white flash of an occasional heron. You hear water moving (gentle movement – soothing), and chickens, frogs, a few other birds. An occasional cow lowing.
So tomorrow we leave this paradise within a paradise …”
